CLASSIC ROYAL MOUNTAIN RANGE PROGRAM
6 DAYS

Classic Bolivia Mountain Expedition

Experience Bolivia’s most iconic high-altitude trekking and mountaineering adventure in the heart of the Andes. This six-day journey will take you through breathtaking glacial landscapes, pristine lagoons, and legendary peaks, culminating in the summit of the mighty Huayna Potosí (6,088 m.a.s.l.).

It's recommended to make an aclimatization program before heading the mountains, we invite you to check our classic programs for 8 or 14 days

Day 1: Base Camp at Condoriri Valley & Ascent to Pico Austria (5,350 m.a.s.l.)

Our expedition begins with a drive from La Paz to the Condoriri Valley, one of Bolivia’s most stunning mountain regions. Upon arrival at Chiarkhota Lagoon (4,650 m.a.s.l.), we set up base camp. In the afternoon, we ascend Pico Austria (5,350 m.a.s.l.), a non-technical peak that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and glacial lakes. This climb serves as an essential acclimatization hike.

Day 2: Climbing a 5,200+ Meter Peak – Choice of Pequeño Alpamayo, Pico Tarija, Ilusión, or Pirámide Blanca

Today, we embark on a technical ascent of one of the following peaks, depending on group preference and conditions:

  • Pequeño Alpamayo (5,370 m.a.s.l.) – A classic Bolivian ascent, featuring a stunning ridge climb.

  • Pico Tarija (5,350 m.a.s.l.) – Ideal for those looking to train for higher peaks, with moderate technical difficulty.

  • Pirámide Blanca (5,230 m.a.s.l.) or Ilusión (5,300 m.a.s.l.) – A lesser-known peak offering solitude and pristine landscapes.

After summiting, we return to base camp at Chiarkhota Lagoon for the night.

Day 3: Trekking to Laguna Esperanza

We pack up camp and embark on a scenic trek towards Laguna Esperanza, a remote and peaceful glacial lake hidden in the heart of the Cordillera Real. This trek allows us to further acclimate while taking in spectacular Andean landscapes. We set up camp near the lagoon and enjoy a restful evening under a sky full of stars.

Day 4: Base Camp at Huayna Potosí & Glacier Practice

A morning trek takes us back to the main road, where we transfer to the Huayna Potosí Base Camp (4,700 m.a.s.l.). Upon arrival, we conduct essential glacier training at the old glacier, practicing techniques such as ice climbing, rope work, and crevasse rescue. This preparation is crucial for the successful summit of Huayna Potosí.

Day 5: High Camp on Huayna Potosí (5,200 m.a.s.l.)

We ascend from Base Camp to Campo Alto (High Camp) at 5,200 m.a.s.l., navigating rocky terrain with our gear. This short but demanding trek prepares us for the final summit push. After an early dinner, we rest and prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Summit Day – Huayna Potosí (6,088 m.a.s.l.) & Return to La Paz

We begin our ascent in the early morning hours, using headlamps to navigate the icy slopes. The final ridge climb is exhilarating, leading us to the summit of Huayna Potosí (6,088 m.a.s.l.), where we are rewarded with breathtaking views of the vast altiplano, Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon Basin. After celebrating our achievement, we descend back to Base Camp, then return to La Paz by late afternoon.
